Welcome
I am Halit Eren, author of the book on Impact of Technology on Environment: Climate Change and Instrumentation. I’m pleased to see you as a visitor to my blog. I value all the comments made whether you are an expert in any field presented in this book or you are just interested on the environmental problems we are facing today (such as the climate change). Please make comments or provide information of importance to you that might be missing in this book.
Although there is a lot more to talk about on the contents of this book, I tried to keep the information concise but comprehensive. I highlighted that, historically, human interaction with the environment appears to be opportunistic and always in favor of humans. Currently, human related activities are causing many environmental concerns ranging from climate change, ozone depletion, diminishing biodiversity, hazardous and nuclear substances and wastes damping, desertification, land degradation, air pollution, to soil pollution. Can we organize ourselves and change our way of living to eliminate the problems?
I’ll be returning here frequently with new posts and responses. I welcome all the comments albeit critical or complimentary.
Until next time!
Hi Halit!…..so one suggestion we must implement is creating more flood plains in Cumbria especially by undoing the straightening of water courses that was carried out in the 19th century and introducing more Beavers and new ponds for toads, frogs and newts + voles. Also create a natural environment for almost extinct birds, red kite, owls, falcons, buzzards. Buzzards are often killed deliberately in the Grouse shooting season. Shocking! Also we should stop the senseless slaughter of Badgers and find a better solution regarding Bovine TB. Also introduce back Hedgehogs into gardens and Parks. I last saw one here in the garden in the 1950s hiding under our rock motif, but never since in 60 years! Forestry should have been more diverse and simply planting vast areas of monoclonal Pine is not environmentally satisfactory. A lot of Elm Trees are now lost to Dutch Elm Disease and something must be done, perhaps by genetically creating a resistant strain. It can’t be impossible! The irony of overpopulation is that huge areas are actually empty here in the UK. Being cynical about it…..we have Politicians who know they will possibly not be in a Job next year or soon after and so are always vulnerable to Lobbying by Property Developers, Hedge Fund Dealers and Big Pharma and this Corruption, even if not the sort of scale associated with developing Countries. Once a Government is in power, it seems to me that the Electorate is then FORGOTTEN until they are needed again 5 years down the Road! Peter!
